BIOGRAPHIES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

ROBERT WU
Robert Wu is the Co-Chairman and founding president of the Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association, the Co-Chairman and founding president of the Fudan University Business Education Foundation and a director of the 1990 Institute. Mr. Wu is a veteran of the Computer and Semiconductor Industry in both the U.S. and China. He received his BSEE with the highest honor from the University of California, Berkeley ('53) and his MSEE from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1954. He was a project manager in semiconductor development of Transitron Semiconductor Corporation before his return to China in 1956. Mr. Wu became a member of the Chinese Academy of Science and played an active role in the early development of the Institute of Semiconductor, the Institute of Computing Technology, and the Institute of Microelectronics. He was a technical director in developing China's first transistor, the first transistorized mainframe and the first microcomputer with silicon IC. He was recognized as a founding member of China's computer and semiconductor industry. Mr. Wu returned to US and joined HP Labs in 1978. He facilitated the setting up of HP China, the first joint venture between the US and China. HP China grew to be one of the most successful joint ventures with revenue of more then one billion dollars in 1999. Early in 1982, he supported immediate VLSI implementation on RISC architecture and became the project manager of HP's first RISC microprocessor. In 1985, he made the initial proposal of utilizing the vast amount of cost effective manpower resources in China and India, and became the program manager of HP International Contract Programming. Mr. Wu co founded Silicon Magic Corporation in 1994, where he served as the Director of Human Resources, Planning, and China Business Development until 1999.

SAUL YEUNG
Saul Yeung is the Executive Vice President of the Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association and the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Central Group of Companies, which consist of Central Computer Systems, Central Real Estate, Central Bamboo Flooring, Central Automobile, and Central Training. Mr. Yeung is the two-term Chairman of the Silicon Valley Chinese American Computer Association. Mr. Yeung received his Masters in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley ('81) and is enrolled in the Ph.D

SANDY CHAU
Sandy Chau has been active in Internet investment since 1997. From 1992 to 1997, he was the CEO of one of the largest and most diversified listed construction and real estate firms in Taiwan. Mr. Chau began his career heading a consulting firm for start-ups in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was the founding president for the influential Asia America Multi-Technology Association (AAMA) in Silicon Valley in 1979. In 1977, he started Universal Semiconductor in San Jose, California. Since 1984, he has been actively involved in various real estate projects in the US and in Far East countries. He has a BS in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley ('78) and a MBA.

MART BAILEY
Founder and Managing Partner, Callaway Venture Partners

Mart Bailey founded Callaway Venture Partners in 2008, and serves as a Managing Partner of the firm. In an effort to improve the quality of life for people suffering from debilitating diseases, Callaway Venture Partners is committed to transforming healthcare through innovation, and invests in opportunities in China and the US as it relates back to China. Callaway seeks visionary companies, which target markets where the opportunity exists to make significant and dramatic clinical improvements. Prior to founding Callaway Venture Partners, Bailey started his own advisory firm, Callaway Private Equity Partners, to serve the private financing needs of emerging growth companies in the healthcare space. Before Callaway, he spent the 1990s with Bear Stearns & Co. and The Shemano Group, where he ran private equity. Bailey hails from a family of entrepreneurs, the Callaways, who have created value in healthcare, textiles, chemicals, golf clubs, wine, real estate, and publishing, among other industries over the last century. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Asian Studies, participating in UC Berkeley's EAP at Beijing University.

DR. ZHONGHAN (JOHN) DENG
John Deng is the Chairman, CEO and President of Vimicro (NASDAQ: VIMC), a company which he co-founded and took public in 2005. Under Dr. Deng's leadership, Vimicro has grown into a worldwide leading supplier of multimedia chips. He also co-founded Pixim, a leader in imaging sensor technology, in Silicon Valley. Dr. Deng worked as a research scientist at IBM - T.J. Watson Research Center. He has also served as an advisor to the Ministry of Information Industry and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, as well as a national member of Chinese Association of Science and Technology. Dr. Deng has received numerous awards for his achievements in developing China's IC industry. In 2003, he was awarded a national medal presented by Chinese President Hu Jintao. In 2005, he was selected by China Central Television (CCTV) as one of the Top Ten Most Influential Business Persons in China and received a Distinguished Engineering Alumni Awards from the University of California at Berkeley, College of Engineering. Dr. Deng received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, M.S. in Economics, and M.S. in Physics, all from the University of California at Berkeley.

DR. HSING KUNG
Dr. Hsing Kung is the Senior Vice President of Opnext, Inc. and Vice Chairman of Monte Jade. He was a co-founder and President/CEO of Pine Photonics Communication (acquired by Opnext). Prior to Pine Photonics, Dr. Kung was the Senior Vice President, Business Development of American Xtal Technology (AXT). In 1983, Dr. Kung joined SDL Inc. as a co-founder and Vice President of manufacturing. SDL became a world leading optical communication company and was later acquired by JDS Uniphase in the largest technology merger of 2001. From 1974 to 1978, he was with Optoelectronics Division of Hewlett Packard. Dr. Kung received a BS degree from National Cheng Kung University, a PhD from UC Berkeley, all in Electrical Engineering. He also received a MBA degree from Santa Clara University.

JAMES K. LAU
James K. Lau is a founder of Network Appliance (NASDAQ: NTAP), a world leader in unified storage solutions for today's data-intensive enterprise, and has served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Network Appliance since May 2000. Prior to that, Mr. Lau served as the Vice President, Chief Technical Officer and Vice President of Engineering since April 1992. Prior to that, he served as director of software development at Auspex Systems, Inc. Prior to Auspex, Mr. Lau served as group manager of PC products at Bridge Communications, now known as 3Com. Mr. Lau holds a B.S. degree in computer science and mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley and a master's degree in computer engineering from Stanford University

KATHERINE LAU
Katherine Lau serves as trustee on the UC Berkeley Foundation. Ms. Lau holds a B.S. degree in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley.

DR. LESTER LEE
Lester Lee is the Chief Executive Officer of Recortec. In 1993, Dr. Lee was appointed by Governor Wilson as the first Chinese-American member of the Board of Regents of the University of California, where he served until 1994. As a member of the Board of Regents, Dr. Lee served on the Audit Committee, the Affirmative Action Policies Committee and the Education Policy Committee, and was the Vice-Chairman, Oversight of the Dept. of Energy Committee. Dr. Lee earned a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. From 1990 to 1991, Dr. Lee served on President Bush's Commission on Executive Exchange.

PROFESSOR XIN LIU
Xin Liu is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Chair of the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Liu earned his Ph.D (1995) from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London. He is the author of In One's Own Shadow (UC Press) and The Otherness of Self (U. of Michigan Press).

DR. CHENG LIU
Dr. Liu is the founder and CEO of Eureka Therapeutics, Inc. Prior to founding Eureka, Dr. Liu served as a principal scientist in the Preclinical Research Department at Chiron. Dr. Liu has 20 years of experience in biology research and drug discovery with extensive experience and knowledge in drug targeting, validation, assay development, and screening for therapeutic protein drug discovery. Dr. Liu has extensive experience and knowledge in cancer target discovery and validation, assay development, and high throughput screening for therapeutic protein and antibody drug discovery. He is the inventor of 14 patents filed in the US and Europe. He served as president of SAPA-West from 2004-05. Dr. Liu received his B.S. in Genetics from Beijing University, M.S. in Molecular Biology from Beijing University, and a Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.

CHUCK NG
Chuck Ng is the Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of the Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association. Mr. Ng works for eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY) and has responsibilities in international expansion and financial strategy of eBay's PayPal business unit. Prior to eBay, he worked for Chiron Corporation, the second largest biotech company in the San Francisco Bay Area ranked by revenue, where he had responsibilities in corporate finance and treasury risk management. He managed the global hedging program as well as the strategic investment at Chiron. Prior to Chiron, Mr. Ng held various finance management positions at JP Morgan Chase and Flextronics. He has also worked at the United States Department of Commerce in Beijing and at Dentsu Young & Rubicam in Beijing. Mr. Ng is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley ('96) and was a visiting MBA scholar at Tsinghua University in China. He has held various leadership positions in a number of cross-Pacific professional organizations such as the Asian American Manufacturing Association (AAMA), the Sino American Pharmaceutical Association (SAPA-West), the Chinese Networking and Information Association (CINA) and the Berkeley Alumni Association in Hong Kong & China. Mr. Ng is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, and is conversant in Japanese.

PROFESSOR YINGYI QIAN
Yingyi Qian is a Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Qian graduated from Tsinghua University in Beijing in 1981 with a B.S. in Mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in 1990, after earning an M.Phil. in Management Science/Operations Research from Yale University and an M.A. in Statistics from Columbia University. Before joining the Berkeley faculty, he taught in the Department of Economics at Stanford University between 1990 and 1999 and in the Department of Economics at the University of Maryland between 1999 and 2001. Professor Qian is a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London, a Research Fellow of the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan Business School, a Fellow of the Chinese Economists Society (USA), and a Non-Resident Senior Research Fellow at the Stanford Center for International Development. Professor Qian is Co-Editor of the Economics of Transition and is on the Board of Editors of the China Economic Review.

JAMES C. SHA
James C. Sha is a Partner of Spring Creek Venture. The partnership specializes in early stage venture investment and business consultation with Internet and Infrastructure companies. Mr. Sha is currently serving on the Boards of Directors of several start-up companies. His Board memberships include Appstream, Aduva, E21, LiveABC, Optoplex, Mediostream, and Tom.com. From February 1999 to September 1999, Mr. Sha served as the CEO for Sina.com, a Global Chinese Internet portal company. Mr. Sha holds a MS in EECS from the University of California, Berkeley ('76), an MBA from Santa Clara University, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Taiwan University. Mr. Sha is a trustee of the U.C. Berkeley Foundation.

SELENA MING SHE
Selena Ming She is a corporate attorney with the Savant Law Group. Ms. She's practice concentrates on advising business clients in the areas of international business transactions, corporate, intellectual property and technology transfers. Ms. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law ('96) and has a Bachelor of Law degree from Fudan University School of Law in China ('91). Ms. She is licensed to practice in California and New York. Ms. She also holds a Chinese Lawyer Certificate.

DAVID TSANG
David Tsang is the managing member and co-founder of Acorn Campus, a venture capital fund and incubator. Mr. Tsang has since the 1960s been a veteran of the semiconductor industry, widely regarded as an industry expert and a visionary. Mr. Tsang recently served as chairman of Oak Technology, which he founded and brought to IPO in 1995 (NASDAQ:OAKT). He also founded Data Technology Corporation, manufacturer of disk controllers and high-density disk drives. From 1979 to 1987 he filled a number of key roles at Data Technology Corporation, including president, chief executive officer, and chairman. He additionally co-founded Xebec, another manufacturer of disk controllers. He remained with Xebec from 1974 to 1979. Mr. Tsang holds an MSEE from Santa Clara University and an honorary PhD from International Technical University.

JUNFENG WANG
Junfeng Wang is one of the founding partners of King & Wood, the largest law firm in China. Before joining King & Wood, Mr. Wang was head of the Commercial Law Department of China Global Law Office, which was under the China Council for Promotion of International Trade. He specializes in securities, international commerce, intellectual property, foreign direct investment in China, international finance, and arbitration. Mr. Wang is one of the earliest lawyers licensed to practice securities law in China. He has advised more than one hundred large state-owned enterprises in a variety of restructuring and IPO transactions. Mr. Wang obtained his LLB and LLM from Jilin University. He gained his second LLM from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. Currently, he is a JSD candidate at Boalt. Mr. Wang was elected as one of the Outstanding Lawyers by the Ministry of Justice of China.

DR. ROBERT YUNG
Robert Yung was formerly the chief technology officer of Enterprise Processors, Enterprise Products Group and the Communications Group of the Intel Corporation. Prior to that, Dr. Yung was a director at the Intel Architecture Group and Intel's chief technology officer for China. Dr. Yung started and drove the development of Intel's US$50 million China Research Center in Beijing from September 1998 to July 2000. As the director of Intel China Research Center, Dr. Yung oversaw all projects including applied research to develop a new generation of easier to use human-computer interface, and Internet technology such as knowledge management and decision support system. In 2000, Dr. Yung was named to the World Economic Forum's "Top 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow" in Davos, Switzerland. The Global Leaders for Tomorrow represent a new generation of global decision-makers from business, government, politics and civil society who have demonstrated leadership in areas such as society, environment, technology and social responsibility in business. In 2002, Dr. Yung was named a Fellow of the National Committee of US-China Relations during the inaugural Young Leader Forum. Dr. Yung earned his BA ('85), MS ('88) and Ph.D. ('98) degrees in electrical engineering and computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of 63 issued and over 20 pending patents, and has published extensively in technical journals and at industry conferences.

VICTOR T. SHUM
Victor Shum is the Secretary and General Counsel of the Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association. He is a corporate attorney at Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro, LLP, a 140 attorney full-service law firm with offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. Mr. Shum's practice concentrates on counseling emerging growth high-technology companies with venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border issues, and other strategic business transactions, including real estate transactions and intellectual property and technology licensing matters. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Shum was an engineer at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he conducted research in high temperature superconductors and at the Mobil Oil Corporation in Los Angeles, California. In 1995, he served as a petrochemical services consultant in Beijing, China. Mr. Shum holds a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley ('92) and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. In 1995, Mr. Shum studied at Peking University in China. Mr. Shum is licensed to practice law in California, Hawaii and the District of Columbia.

PROFESSOR XIAO-JUN ZHANG
Xiao-Jun Zhang is the E.R. Niemela Associate Professor of Accounting and the Co-chair of the Haas Accounting Group, Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Zhang holds a BA in finance from Renmin University, China, an MA in economics from the University of Maryland and a M.Ph. and Ph.D. in business administration from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University.

DR. PETER ZHOU
Peter Zhou is the Assistant University Librarian and the Director of the C.V. Starr East Asian Library, University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Zhou was formerly the head of the University of Pittsburgh's East Asian Library. Dr. Zhou studied linguistics and library science at the University of Illinois.

LEI ZHU
Lei Zhu is a Vice-President of the Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association and is currently President of the Berkeley Chinese Students and Scholars Association. Mr. Zhu holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in law from Peking University and a LL.M from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley ('01). Mr. Zhu will be completing his J.S.D. at Boalt in 2004.

Nicky K. Wu
Mr. Nicky K. Wu is CEO/Founder of two Silicon Valley technology companies. They are Amax Technologies Inc, a wireless/handheld/software Company in California and China. The second company, Proto Services Inc., is a new product development engineering services company in the Silicon Valley.Nicky was Chief Operating Officer to Altatron, a mid-size electronics manufacturing services company, until its merger with Flextronics International Inc. Nicky has served as Vice President to the companies including Johnson & Johnson Surgical Group, Philips Medical Division; German Hereaus Medical Group and Spectra Physics' Laser Division.An Industrial Engineering graduate of San Jose State University and MBA graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder, Nicky continued his academic career as a teaching faculty member to professional adults at the University of Phoenix's MBA/BS program for 15 years.Nicky currently is serving his second term as the President of Milpitas Chamber of Commerce - an organization comprised of 700 plus business members from many successful companies including Cisco, Solectron, Seagate, Johnson & Johnson and Linear Technology. Nicky is Charter Member to AAMA and an advisor to the International Leadership Foundation in Washington DC.


BIOGRAPHIES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HONORARY BOARD OF DIRECTORS

ART FONG
Art Fong is a life long inventor who developed the first AM/FM receiver and whose work as at the MIT Radiation Laboratory during World War II contributed to the development of the radar. Now a community-minded philanthropist, Mr. Fong was a founding engineer at Hewlett-Packard Company whose inventions at one point generated nearly 30 percent of the company's revenues. Mr. Fong has received awards from HP, the Cal Engineering Alumni Society and IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. In the late 1960s, Art Fong was asked to be the U.S. delegate for a commission that developed standards for measuring instruments, and has been a member of the U.S. National Security Agency advisory committee to improve digital data security. Art and Mary Fong initiated the Fong Family Scholarships for deserving junior and senior Cal engineering students. Art Fong received his BSEE with from the University of California, Berkeley and his MSEE from Stanford University.

PROFESSOR ROBERT A. SCALAPINO
Robert Scalapino is a Professor Emeritus of Political Science and the founder of the Institute of East Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Scalapino has been the recipient of a number of research grants under such auspices as the Guggenheim Foundation, Social Science Research Council, National Endowment for the Humanities, the Henry Luce Foundation, the Earhart Foundation, and numerous others. He has been awarded the Medal of Highest Honor from the Graduate Institute of Peace Studies, Kyung Hee University; the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit, Heung-In Medal from the Government of Korea; and the Order of the Sacred Treasure by the government of Japan. In 1990, Dr. Scalapino received the Berkeley Citation for Distinguished Service to the University of California. In 1997, he was conferred the title of Honorary Professor of both the Center on Northeast Asian Studies in Mongolia and Peking University in Beijing. Most recently, Dr. Scalapino was the recipient of the 1998 Japan Foundation Award. He received his B.A. degree from Santa Barbara College and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University.

PROFESSOR ROBERT C. BERRING JR.
Robert C. Berring Jr. is the Walter Perry Johnson Professor of Law Professor Emeritus of the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining the Boalt faculty in 1982, Professor Berring worked at the University of Washington, Harvard University, the University of Texas and the University of Illinois. Professor Berring was appointed interim dean of the law school on January 1, 2003. Previously he served as the director of the law library since 1982. From 1986-1989 he held a joint appointment as dean of School of Library and Information Studies. Professor Berring teaches contracts, advanced legal research and courses covering Chinese law. He also regularly teaches an undergraduate course about China for the Legal Studies Department, and offers freshmen seminars about law and cognitive studies. In 1997, Professor Berring was named to the Walter Perry Johnson Chair. In 1987 he was awarded UC Berkeley's Distinguished Teaching Award. And, in 2003 he won the Frederick Charles Hicks Award for contributions to law librarianship. Professor Berring is the author of several texts on legal research and has written extensively about the conversion of information from print to electronic form. His recent publications include Finding the Law (with Beth Edinger, 11th ed., 1999) and Legal Research Survival Manual, (with Beth Edinger, 2002). He also created the award-winning video series Legal Research for the 21st Century.

PROFESSOR ERNEST S. KUH
Ernest S. Kuh is the William S. Floyd, Jr. Professor Emeritus in Engineering and a Professor in the Graduate School of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. He joined the EECS Department faculty in 1956. From 1968 to 1972 he served as chair of the department; from 1973 to 1980 he served as Dean of the College of Engineering. From 1952 to 1956 he was a member of the Technical Staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. Prof. Kuh attended Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 1945 to 1947; received the B.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 1949; the S.M. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1950; the Ph.D. degree from Stanford University in 1952; the Doctor of Engineering, Honoris Causa, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1997; and the Doctor of Engineering degree from the National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan in 1999. Prof. Kuh is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Academia Sinica, and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is a Fellow of IEEE and AAAS. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the ASEE Lamme Medal, the IEEE Centennial Medal, the IEEE Education Medal, the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Award, the IEEE Millennium Medal, the 1996 C&C Prize, and the 1998 EDAC Phil Kaufman Award.

PROFESSOR LARRY LOLLAR
Larry Lollar is the Assistant Dean, Development and Alumni Relations of the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Lollar holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Oklahoma, and an MA in English Literature from Duke University, Durham, N.C.

PROFESSOR A. RICHARD NEWTON
Richard Newton is currently Dean of the College of Engineering and the Roy W. Carlson Professor of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He has been a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences since 1979, where he has been actively involved as a teacher and researcher in the areas of design technology, electronic system architecture, and integrated circuit design. From 1998-2002 he served as the founding director of the MARCO/DARPA Gigascale Silicon Research Center (GSRC) for silicon chip design and test. With an annual budget of $9 million in 2002, the GSRC is a major private-public partnership with the US Government and the semiconductor industry that funds and coordinates long-range research at a dozen major US universities and involving many industrial collaborators. In addition to his academic role, Professor Newton has helped to found a number of design technology companies, including SDA Systems (now Cadence Design Systems), PIE Design Systems (now a part of Cadence), Simplex Solutions, Crossbow Technologies, where he is currently Chairman, and Synopsys, where he rejoined the Board of Directors in 1995. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Tensilica, Inc. and a member of the Technology Council of ST Microelectronics, as well as the technical advisory boards of Lightspeed Semiconductor, Radiata (now a Cisco company), Sonics, Airgo Networks, Pharmix and Form Factor. Since 1997, he has also been a member of the Technical Advisory Board of the Microsoft Research Laboratories. Professor Newton also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology. From 1988-2002, he has acted as a Venture Partner with the Mayfield Fund, a high-technology venture capital partnership, where he has contributed to both the evaluation and early-stage development of over two dozen new companies. He is currently a Venture Partner with Tallwood Venture Capital. From November 1994 to July 1995, Professor Newton was the acting President and CEO of Silicon Light Machines (formerly Echelle, Inc), a development-stage company which is bringing to market a number of display systems based on the application of micromachined silicon light-valves. The company was later acquired by Cypress Semiconductor. He is a Member of the ACM, a Fellow of the IEEE, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

PROFESSOR ANNALEE SAXENIAN
AnnaLee Saxenian is a Professor at the University of California at Berkeley with a joint appointment in the School of Information Management and Systems (currently serving as Dean) and the Department of City and Regional Planning. She is an internationally recognized expert on regional economies and the information technology sector. Her current research examines the contributions of skilled immigrants to Silicon Valley and their growing ties to regions in Asia. Her books include Silicon Valley's New Immigrant Entrepreneurs and Regional Advantage: Culture and Competition in Silicon Valley and Route 128. She has written extensively about entrepreneurs, innovation and regional development in Silicon Valley and elsewhere. Professor Saxenian is a Member of the California Council on Science and Technology, an Adjunct Fellow at the Institute for the Future (IFTF), and served as the Gordon Cain Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research in 1999-2000. She holds a Doctorate in Political Science from MIT, a Master's in Regional Planning from the University of California at Berkeley, and a BA in Economics from Williams College in Massachusetts.

PROFESSOR YUEN-RON SHEN
Yuen-Ron Shen is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Shen has been on the Berkeley faculty since 1964 and a Principal Investigator at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory since 1967. Professor Shen is a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, and Academia Sinica. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and a Sloan Fellow of the Optical Society of America. He was a Guggenheim Fellow in 1972-73, a Miller Professor in 1975 and 1981. He received the Alexander von Humboldt Award in 1984, the C.H. Townes Award in 1986, the A.L. Schawlow Prize in 1992, the Max Planck Research Prize in 1996, the F. Isakson Prize in 1998, the Dept. of Energy Award for Outstanding Scientific Accomplishments in Solid State Physics in 1983, for Sustained Outstanding Research in Solid State Physics in 1987 and for Significant Implications for DOE-Related Technologies in 1997. Dr. Shen received a Ph.D., Harvard University in 1963.
