Overview

INTRODUCTION
The Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association ("BCAIA") was formed in response to a collective desire by students, faculty, alumni and friends of the University of California, Berkeley with an interest in Greater China to join together in an organized effort to benefit UC Berkeley. The BCAIA was officially chartered by the California Alumni Association on March 5, 2004.


OBJECTIVES

  • To promote and support the Chang-Lin Tien Center for East Asian Studies at UC Berkeley
  • To facilitate academic, cultural and business ties between UC Berkeley and organizations in Greater China
  • To promote and support UC Berkeley programs domestically and in Greater China
  • To promote, support and foster partnerships with other chapters of the California Alumni Association
  • To provide mentorship and career development opportunities to UC Berkeley students and alumni
MEMBERSHIP
The membership of the BCAIA has a focused interest and stake in UC Berkeley and Greater China. Our members include students, faculty and alumni, as well as professional, business, and philanthropic leaders who have a dedicated interest in the well being of UC Berkeley.

Annual Membership is $25. Lifetime Membership is $200.

BYLAWS OF
THE BERKELEY CHINESE ALUMNI INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION

1. NAME. The name of this Club is “Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association”


2. PURPOSE. The purpose of this Club shall be to join local University of California Alumni together in organized efforts to benefit both the University of California, Berkeley and the members and supporters of the organization.

3. OBJECTIVES. More specifically, the Club shall accomplish its purpose by the following:

3.1 Facilitating cultural and business ties between the Greater China region, the United States of America and to alumni of Chinese ancestry worldwide;

3.2 Promoting and supporting University of California, Berkeley programs in Greater China;

3.3 Promoting and supporting the Chang-Lin Tien Center for East Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley;

3.4 Promoting, supporting and fostering partnerships with other chapters of the California Alumni Association;


3.5 Providing mentorship/career development to University of California, Berkeley alumni and students; and

3.6 Building a membership database.

4. OFFICERS. The Club shall have a governing board consisting of the duly elected Officers of the Club: at least a President, an Executive Vice-President, a Vice-President, a Secretary,
a Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer and shall have three (3) members-at-large serving on the governing board. This board shall meet two (2) times per year. All eight (8) officers must be
current members of the California Alumni Association. Furthermore, there must be eight (8) interested club members involved with the emerging club. This bringing to sixteen (16) the number of alumni involved with the emerging club.

5. TERM OF OFFICE. The Club must hold annual elections of officers. The term of office for President shall be limited to two (2) consecutive terms of one (1) to two (2) years.

6. MEMBERSHIP. All California Alumni and friends of the University of California, Berkeley are eligible for membership in this Club.

7. DUES. The Club shall be comprised of Lifetime and Regular members. Each Lifetime member shall be assessed a one time $200 lifetime membership. Each Regular member shall be
assessed $25 in annual dues.

8. AMENDMENTS. The Bylaws may be amended by a majority vote of the Club membership present at any meeting. Any change in the Bylaws must be submitted to the California Alumni Association in writing for approval.
